One of the fun things about owning a car is learning all the tips and tricks to maintaining it.  That’s why many car lovers take the time to understand why certain services are important before actually doing them.  While everyone has their own routine, there’s one service that’s been around for decades: car waxing.  Many car owners wonder, though, is wax really good for your car or is it just a myth?  Let’s take a look.

Do I Need to Wax My Car?

You don’t have to wax your car, but you should.  For those that are concerned about the appearance of their car (as most car owners are), waxing helps keep your car looking good year-round by:

  • Keeping your car shiny: The ingredients in the wax are responsible for improving the appearance of the car.  While cleaning your car may provide a temporary shine, the wax actually adds an extra layer of protection.  What does this mean?  It means your car is protected from external factors for longer periods of time; in other words, you can show off a shiny car for longer.
  • Protecting it against scratches: There’s nothing worse than seeing a new scratch on your car. When you apply wax, it provides car paint protection by adding a thin layer of wax to the clear coat of paint on top of the body.  This is especially useful against small dirt particles that your car is exposed to on a daily basis.  While these particles may not seem like they can do any damage to your car, they can leave small scratches over time.
  • Defending it against everyday elements: Your car is exposed to so many different things every single day.  While you can’t prevent these external factors from existing, you can do your best to protect against them.  To help prevent your paint from fading or chipping, the wax works to protect against things such as rain, snow, sun, bird droppings, and tree sap, among others.
